In this volume, the well-known photographer and ethnologist Henning Christoph presents selected images from over forty years of field research in West Africa and the diaspora. Many of the ceremonies and rituals shown here are taboo for outsiders and until now have not been photographed or published in this form. For the first time, an important part of the exhibits that Christoph collected for the Museum Soul of Africa in Essen, Germany, which he founded in 2000, will also be presented.
